The Golden Lobes Issue a Totally Unofficial, Deeply Sincere Response to the Golden Globes

Well. This is awkward.

Just one week after we wrapped up the glittering, champagne-flavoured chaos that was the inaugural Golden Lobes Podcast Awards, the Golden Globes - yes, those Golden Globes -have announced a brand new category: Best Podcast. Interesting timing, no?

Here at The Golden Lobes, we’re not in the business of making accusations. But if we were, we might suggest that this is an eerily convenient coincidence. After all, we launched The Golden Lobes - the world’s first podcast awards named after a bodily party - in May 2025. We even had real trophies. Real laughter. At least two real viewers on the livestream.

And now, mere months later, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has had a sudden epiphany that podcasts exist? And decided to name their category in a way that sounds suspiciously similar to ours? Hmmm. 🧐

We decided a response was in order.

Enter: Mark Silcox, our unofficial and delightfully dry spokesperson, who has issued a legally meaningless but spiritually robust public statement. In the video, which you can watch here [https://www.instagram.com/p/DJts7a8xt6H/] Mark addresses the suspicious overlap in naming conventions, questions the Globes’ motives, and generously offers an alternative to a cease and desist: a cease and dentist.

“If you don’t cease, we will send a dentist to America to give you some completely unneeded fillings.”

Hard to argue with logic like that.

Meanwhile, at Cheerful Earful…

In other, significantly more cheerful news, our sister project Cheerful Earful Podcast Festival will be announcing its full 2025 lineup on Wednesday, May 21st. Applications to perform are now open at cheerfulearful.co.uk/perform.

If you're a podcaster, you belong here. If you're a listener, your ears are in for a treat. And if you're a major Hollywood award show hoping to poach more of our ideas - honestly, just send an email first.
